Field Guide to the Corals of Vanuatu: A guide to the underwater identification of 135 species of corals in 41 genera in Vanuatu Paperback – November 17, 2025

This field identification guide was written to help identify hard corals in Vanuatu. All the photos were taken in Vanuatu, and are accurate representations of corals found there. Hard corals look different from each other on a range of scales depending on their location on reefs and across islands and latitudes. No species are included in this guide that are not present in Vanuatu.This is a first edition and therefore some corals that are found in Vanuatu are not yet in this guide, but with additional fieldwork more species will be added. Globally, families of corals are in a period of flux, and this guide follows Veron et al. (2016) in omitting families where there is uncertainty. The order in which genera and species are presented generally follows universal standards (e.g. Veron, 2000), with the order modified only where necessary to place similar-looking species close together, to assist field identification.
