It is intended as a single, all-in-one showcase of the images with updated annotations of the names and a cross referenced, alphabetical index to make it searchable using modern terms. The text of the original volumes is not included. The intention was originally to make them all available in one place for the Kindle and other e-readers, and this print book is an added format. While the text is not included, the plate list has been indexed and annotated to include modern common and Latin names. The primary listing titles remains the common names that Audubon used. At the rear of the book there is an alphabetical index of all of Audubon’s names as well as current common and scientific names. All items in the index refernce the pages and plates where that species appears.Larger, higher resolution copies of these images are available from many sources. These specific images have been edited from the original large-scale plates, and cropped and enhanced, and if necessary, cleaned up. The original plates are huge, and many have very large margins, so cropping and editing is required to make them practical for viewing and other uses.Please also note that the images are oriented to fit the page, so that horizontal plates are rotated 90 degrees.
