The Man who turns religion into Love: Meditations from a tool shed in Nazareth, and selected correspondence

The present little volume is a limited collection of some of the original sources of Charles de Foucauld's various spiritual writings. In fact, there is a massive amount of correspondence with many of St Charles ‘friends that span several years. We know he wrote over 4000 letters in his lifetime and filled many copy books with his meditations on the Gospels, the Psalms and his 5000-page Tuareg to French Dictionary. And thanks be to God many have survived very well. What a privilege for me so many years ago to hold several of those copy books, pages and pages in the most beautiful penmanship in my own hands and read his many thoughts and prayers with what little French I knew. What treasures God shares with us.Years before his conversion to the Catholic Church, as a much younger man, St Charles was renowned for having been awarded the first gold Medal from the French geographical Society for his explorations and maps of Morrocco. He was a published author before his thirtieth birthday.The works collected here are a gathering of some larger works already published, which are dated and with a poor translation. The editor must decide if is it better to give a reader a chance at some good spiritual food even if it’s not the best translation or not serve even a morsal. The reader will decide. Read more
